Opening joy!

Worcester’s oldest pub, The Cardinal’s Hat, is officially re-open!

After nearly a year since time was last called, The Cardinal’s Hat officially reopened on Wednesday 1 May 2013 amid much May Day fun and festivity. The honour of conducting the ceremony fell to national treasure and local porcelain expert Mr Henry Sandon, whose entertaining speech detailed a potted history of Friar Street’s much-loved watering hole.

Mr Sandon said: “It has been an absolute joy to reopen The Cardinal’s Hat. It is wonderful! Heaven sent! It’s a proper pub and there are not many of them left now.”

Following the opening ceremony, passers by, customers and revellers from the Worcester Re-enactors were treated to a display of energetic Morris dancing from Pebworth Morris. Our new landlord Nigel Smith, who himself is a keen member of Pebworth Morris, joined in the May Day display with great gusto.

Nigel said: “I am thrilled that the Hat is officially open and that we can move forward with our plans to establish ourselves as the number one craft and cask ale house in the city. With such a great historic foundation, coupled with a love of local and quality produce, we can look forward to welcoming customers old and new over the coming months.”

Many thanks to everyone who came and supported us on our special day. It was one to remember!
